Tree Removal on Home Ground in Belt, MT

Belt is a town of about 510 people in Cascade County, Montana, 20.7 road miles and about 25 minutes east of Great Falls by US-87 and US-89, with Belt Creek through the middle. Cole Hagberg grew up on a ranch outside town. Belt had Montana's first coal mine, supplied Fort Benton with fuel, and was called Little Pittsburgh until the smelters switched to natural gas in 1930.

Fifteen downtown buildings form the Belt Commercial Historic District. Cottonwood, willow and boxelder follow the creek; green ash, Siberian elm and blue spruce stand on the town lots; chokecherry and aspen fill the draws, with shelterbelts on the ranches above.

Why a Great Falls Crew Comes to Belt

What Belt Can Expect

The Owner's Home Road

Cole drives through Belt most weeks, so an estimate is usually booked within a couple of days and a storm call gets a same-day look. Belt pairs with Stockett and Highwood work.

Belt Creek Cottonwoods

Creekside cottonwoods grow big in soft ground and lean toward the water. We section them down from the dry side and keep every trunk away from the creek and the fence.

Old Downtown Lots, Careful Rigging

Big elms and spruce on the older blocks stand over roofs, garages and service drops. Each piece is tied off and lowered, and the walk and fence stay untouched.

A Town With Its Own Office

Belt is incorporated and writes its own ordinances, so for a tree over a town street we call the town office and tell you what it says. Outside town, a brush pile needs a County burn permit.

City boulevard, burning and town-office rules: see our permits page.
