Cascade, MT: Tree Work at the Canyon Mouth

Cascade is a town of about 600 people in Cascade County, Montana, 26.0 road miles and about 30 minutes south of Great Falls on I-15, on the west bank of the Missouri where a town formed to serve Montana Central Railway crews. It took the name Cascade in 1887 hoping to become the county seat, and Charlie and Nancy Russell's honeymoon cabin stands in town on the National Register.

Tower Rock marks the canyon entrance just south, and that canyon funnels wind onto town. Cottonwood and willow fill the river bottom, green ash, Siberian elm and boxelder lean downwind on the town lots, and blue spruce stand close to the houses for shelter.

Why a Great Falls Crew Comes to Cascade

What Cascade Can Expect

Thirty Minutes Down the Interstate

Cascade is a straight I-15 run through Ulm with no trip charge. We pair it with Ulm work, and a storm call gets a next-day answer at worst.

Canyon Wind on Town Trees

Wind out of the Missouri canyon hits Cascade first. Before spring we check elms and ash for cracked leaders and hanging wood and clear the hazard limbs over the roof.

River-Bottom Cottonwoods

West-bank cottonwoods grow big in soft ground and lean toward the river. We piece them down from the dry side, and the chipper stays where the ground holds.

A Town With Its Own Office

Cascade is incorporated with its own ordinances, so for a tree over a town street we check with the town office and report back. Outside town, a brush pile needs a County burn permit.

City boulevard, burning and town-office rules: see our permits page.
